From the Columbia Basin Herald on Aug. 22, 1941:
Peach harvest starts
Peach harvest in this section is getting underway this week and by the end of the week or the fore part of next, will be in full swing. Peaches this year are of an extra quality, well colored and should bring a good price in the open market. The yield, too, is reported very good.
Watermelons and cants have been coming along nicely for the past week. While the price is not what it should be, the yield is unusual large, which will make up in part, at least, for the low prices.
Potato market jumps
Good news to potato growers is the quotation last Saturday that the potato market had jumped from $16 to $20 per ton. While much of the early crop has been sold at the lower figure, the late crop is coming on and many of our ranches will benefit from the advance in price.
