ROYAL CITY — The halls of Red Rock Elementary were adorned with all the frills of Fall and Halloween as children and parents alike roamed about the school enjoying the activities of the first annual Fall Harvest Festival last Thursday.

Planning for the event was a major group effort involving teachers, para’s, Principal David Andra, and school staff explained Monica Ayala, an office aide for Red Rock. Everyone was welcome to attend the festival, giving family members and children a chance to enjoy activities together.

“Everything went really smoothly,” said Ayala. “It worked out well for everyone.”

The evening kicked off with a dinner in the school’s cafeteria, where guests were treated to chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. Various classrooms and hallways were set up for the many activities, including a photo booth, robotics obstacle course, cupcake walk, face painting, cornhole, pushpin art, bulingual story time, and a haunted house (classroom) just to name a few.

Guests were also treated to a “passport to Mexico,” where children were given passports to be decorated as they visited each booth designed around different cultural aspects in Mexico.

As guests made their way around the different stations, an announcement by Principal Andra came over the school’s intercom informing everyone there were some teachers acting very strangely in the gym. Curious as to what kind of strangeness was taking place, people began filing into the gym as Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller” began to play. A flash mob dance routine to the iconic song then broke out amongst the teachers and school faculty, bringing the evening to a close.
