The nightmare after Halloween

Want to see something really scary?

Wait ‘til Friday night.

That’s when your first snowstorm of the season is expected to hit.

According to Press meteorologist Randy Mann, a “full moon” storm is headed North Idaho’s way and might leave 6 inches of snow over the weekend before it moves out.

“Forecasting snow totals is always a nightmare,” Mann said on Halloween Eve. “The first snow of the season is going to be a decent one — put it that way.”

Mann said at the high end, “We could get our entire November snowfall average of 8.7 inches from start to finish.”

According to Mann, the snow should start Friday night and come down fairly steadily on Saturday. He said that conservatively, there should be “a couple inches downtown” Coeur d’Alene and 4 to 6 elsewhere in the lower elevations. He did hold out the possibility that the storm could drop a little less or a little more, depending on how slow-moving it is.

While Mann was fairly confident this storm will put summer dreams to sleep, he was absolutely certain about what lies beyond.

“There’s plenty more [snow] after that,” he said.
