Cabinet Peaks Medical Center recently began the sixth semester of its Medical Mentorship Program. The program has helped 23 Libby and Troy high school students earn a course credit and gain real-world experience in healthcare. The mentorship is an 18-week, semester-long opportunity for high school seniors who submit an application and go through a formal interview process.

The students chosen for this semester are Libby High School seniors Shannon Reny and Machenna Slinkard in the nursing division, Emily Mossburg in Imaging and Sidney Stevenson in Rehabilitative Services. They will spend two class periods per day at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in their respective divisions. They will be evaluated on various qualities that are important for anyone who wants to succeed in the workplace such as organization, flexibility, attitude, following directions and the importance of punctuality in the workplace.

“Our students from Libby High School have greatly benefited from the Medical Mentorship Program for the last several years,” April Rewerts, program coordinator for Libby High School, said via a news release. “Our students consistently receive direct instruction from these professionals who are excited about their field of work. Over the years we have observed this program largely influence how a student chooses to go on to post-secondary education and what programs they pursue after high school.”

This semester’s program kicked off with the four students going through orientation at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2017.
