WARDEN — Many people tend to head out of town over the Labor Day weekend. If you happen to be in the area on Labor Day, consider attending Warden Community Days and experience one of the many community celebrations the Columbia Basin has to offer.

The celebration begins early Monday morning with the Warden fireman’s pancake breakfast at 6 a.m., followed by a co-ed 6-on-6 volleyball tournament in the park at 9 a.m. and a parade at 11 a.m. Beginning at noon after the parade, people are invited to journey over to the park at the corner of Third and Maple for food, craft vendors, games, activities and entertainment.

“We have the Lions barbecue as well there. This year we are going to have horseshoes going on, volleyball going on and many other kinds of vendors and booths,” event coordinator Kayla Kight said.

The grand marshal for this year’s parade will be longtime Warden resident and current Warden City Council member Darla Haworth. Haworth has lived in the city for 40 years and has been an active member in several clubs and civic organizations.

“She has been doing many activities throughout the years. And then she is also a school bus driver for our school district,” Kight said.

Kight said Warden Community Days typically draws about 2,500 people from close and far away. Organizers for this year’s event are hoping to up that number and have been proactive in promoting the event through various banners in the city and online.

“We are hoping with the extra promotion that we will have a bigger crowd,” she commented.
