A day after the Rocky Mountain Area Incident Management Blue Team assumed command of the West Fork fire, the number of personnel assigned to the fire doubled — increasing from 54 to 108 — according to a Wednesday morning fact sheet that sized the fire at 5,768 acres. Containment remained at 0 percent.

The plan for Wednesday was for crews to prepare homes for increased fire activity by “moving flammable materials away from the homes and installing sprinklers when supplies arrive,” the fact sheet states.

A planned Tuesday evening burnout of vegetation near the Bobtail Ridge and Bobtail Road areas was postponed due to an increase in humidity and “will resume when conditions allow.”

“The purpose of the burnout is to increase the buffer between the active fire and the residence in the area, allowing for quicker re-entry into the evacuation area,” the fact sheet states.

On the weather front, Wednesday morning’s dense inversion was expected to lift later in the day and winds were expected to remain light, causing smoke to continue settling.

“Temperatures will be higher than yesterday and relative humidity will be lower,” the fact sheet states.
