The Columbia Falls girls soccer team looks as good as expected early in the season. They thumped Bigfork on the road Thursday, 8-0, and dispatched Frenchtown 4-1 in their home opener Saturday.
Hannah Gedlaman had four goals in the first 24 minutes against the Valkyries.
Frenchtown played the Lady Wildcats tougher, at least in the first half.
Gedlaman scored at the 29-minute mark. Shots by Lakia Hill and Josie Windauer just missed.
In the second half they put the hammer down, gave up less possessions, and put the Lady Broncs away with three more goals.
“They’re hungry and they’re looking strong. They’re playing a pretty decent brand of soccer,” coach O’Brien Byrd said.
He said the girls came out with more intensity in the second half.
Gedlaman added another goal in the second half. Windauer and Callender also found the back of the net. The Cats have a host of scoring threats this season.
Like the boys, the girls face Park County and Belgrade this weekend at home. Friday’s game is 4 p.m. for the girls, 6 p.m. for the boys. Saturday’s is 11 a.m. for the girls and 1 p.m. for the boys.
The Belgrade girls are undefeated as well, coming off a 3-0 win against Whitefish last week. It should be a marquee matchup and a glimpse at what’s to come in the postseason.
