OKANOGAN — Aubree Skone recorded four goals and assisted on four more and the Warden Cougars crushed Okanogan 9-2 Saturday.

“This game was a testament of how hard the girls have been working on a new formation and talking and moving for each other,” coach Hannah Mohs said. “Okanogan is always a tough opponent and they made the girls run a ton.”

Warden scored early and often in the first half of play. The first goal by Aaliyah Escamilla (Skone assist) came just three minutes into the fuss. Grace Richins (Skone) made it 2-0 at the 12 minute-mark. A foul in the box on the Cougars Kennedy Kilmer seven minutes later led to a converted PK from the Bulldogs Rochelle Hamilton and Okanogan closed the gap to 2-1.

A Skone solo at 22 minutes and an Aaliyah Escamilla (Skone) goal four minutes before the break made it 4-1 Warden.

Skone and Escamilla teamed up to record a goal three minutes into the second half and the Cougars increased their lead to 5-1.

A goal from Ashlyn Yamane (Melanie Cazares) and a solo shot by Bailey Whitney put Warden up by a half-dozen, 7-1 at the 55 and 58 minute-marks.

Rachelle Hamilton stopped the string of five-straight Cougar scores with a goal at the 65th minute of play. Skone put a stamp on the match with another solo shot at the 69th minute and added a goal (Bailey Whitney) for good measure at 76 minutes.

“I am proud of how hard the girls worked in the hot weather and after a long bus ride,” Mohs said. “This game helped us identify areas we need to continue to work on.”

Warden was back on the pitch in Quincy on Tuesday for a nonleague match with the Jacks, but the results were not available at press time.
