There were no injuries following a fire in Polson last week, after a good Samaritan pounded on a man’s window, alerting him to the fire.

Wayne Coe said he had just ignited a propane grill in the backyard Wednesday, Sept. 6 and placed one hot dog on it when he went inside to watch television.

Officials said the fire, which occurred on the 600 block of 3rd Street West, was under investigation.

The first call of the fire was received at 3:58 p.m.

Coe, who has lived in the house since 1978, said that a possible faulty valve on the grill may have been what caused the blaze.

“I’m sitting there watching TV and this guy comes up, I mean he’s hitting that window, and I blurted out ‘Why are you hitting my glass like that?’” Coe recalled.

The man, who Coe said he didn’t know, told him that the house was on fire.

Terry Gembala of the Polson City Fire Department said that damages were undetermined.

Polson City Fire Department, Polson Rural Fire Department and Finley Point Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.

Polson Police Department, Montana State Highway Patrol and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office were present, directing traffic and shutting part of the roadway down for firefighters.
