Volunteer firefighters from the St. Ignatius Fire Department were onhand Saturday, Sept. 9 to answer questions from the public.
During the first-ever open house held by the department, about 20 residents enjoyed hotdogs and cupcakes as well as looking at the vehicles housed at 8 1st Avenue.
Chief Jeremiah Morigeau said that the idea for an open house came about after a discussion with his assistant chief Joe Mitchell. Originally, “it was going to be coffee and donuts” with the public, Morigeau said, adding that the idea was to let people know who’s part of the department and how interested citizens can join.
He confirmed that the department is further discussing about holding an annual open house.
While the event was not for fundraising, Morigeau said that donations were accepted.
