A 33-year-old man has been charged with a felony, accused of brandishing a gun at a woman and loading a bullet into it.

John Clifford Root is charged with felony assault with a weapon.

According to court documents, Kalispell Police Department responded to a Fifth Avenue West residence on Sept. 11 on a report of a disturbance involving a weapon. Police spoke to the victim, who stated that Root reportedly returned home from hunting and was intoxicated. The woman confronted him and an argument ensued. During the argument Root allegedly brandished a handgun and loaded a bullet into the chamber and said, “You got three seconds to get out of my face or this isn’t going to end well,” causing the victim to fear for her safety. Root told police that he pulled the gun during the argument to make the victim “shut up and go to bed,” court documents state.

Police located a Springfield Armory .45 caliber handgun on the kitchen counter.

Arraignment is set Sept. 28.
