Hospital personnel in Houston dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey received some welcomed relief from Mineral Community Hospital in Superior. Nurses were working around the clock to keep up with victims of the hurricane and found themselves short of scrubs.

It was reported that some of the nurses lost everything in the storm and only had scrubs they were wearing during the storm, which hit on Aug. 25. The Category 4 storm slammed into Port Aransas near Houston and caused historic flooding and was the first storm of this magnitude to hit the United States since Hurricane Charley in 2004.

Area resident Joyce Carpenter was visiting with her daughter who works as an RN in Houston and heard about the plight of the nurses who are not allowed to wear dirty scrubs. She reached out to executive assistant of Mineral Community Hospital Mitzi Francis, who jumped into action and began to gather extra scrubs to send to Houston.

Within days, “Operation Scrubs With Love to Houston” had gathered more than 150 sets of scrubs from the small hospital staff to send. The brightly colored tops and pants were sent to the staff in Houston with a note which read, “Sent with Love and Best Wishes from Mineral Community Hospital in Superior, Montana! Our thoughts and prayers are with you!”

“We only have about 60 employees total, and so this is a real credit to all of the staff,” Francis said.
