COOLIN — A person was fatally wounded Tuesday in an armed confrontation with Bonner County sheriff’s deputies, according to Idaho State Police.
State police said deputies were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant on a male subject at approximately 9 a.m. The male was armed and exhibited hostile behavior to the deputies, which prompted them to open fire, according to an ISP news release.
The subject, who was not identified pending notification of kin, was injured and medical attention was rendered. A ground ambulance was attempting to rendezvous with an air ambulance, but the male died en route, state police said.
The shooting is being investigated by the North Idaho Critical Incident Task Force, with Idaho State Police serving as the lead agency.
Additional information about the shooting was not immediately available on Tuesday.
It’s the second officer-involve shooting this year in Bonner County. Adam Deacon Foster was wounded after opening fire on deputies Justin Penn and Michael Gagnon outside his Blanchard home on Jan. 18. Penn and Gagnon were both injured by gunfire, as was Foster.
Foster is scheduled to stand trial on charges of attempted first-degree murder in January 2018. He remains in custody with bail set at $2 million.
