Junior A.J. Woodin’s bio takes up all of five lines on the University of Idaho football website.

2016: Backup quarterback ... saw action in one game.

2015: Primarily a scout team player.

When the Vandals update the bio after the season, this year’s entry could read:

2017: Made an amazing hold for Cade Coffey’s field goal in the first overtime at South Alabama, a game the Vandals went on to win 29-23 in two overtimes.

When Idaho’s first drive stalled, the Vandals lined up for a 39-yard field goal. The snap was behind Woodin, who reached back, caught the snap, brought it back and put it down without messing up Coffey’s timing. Coffey, the former Lakeland High standout, was 3 for 3 on field goals and was named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

You could make a case for Woodin to at least be considered for that honor.

“It couldn’t happen to a better kid,” Idaho coach Paul Petrino said of Woodin, from Southridge High in Beaverton, Ore. “Everyone on the team loves him. He goes out with spirit and fire every day in practice. He kinda became a celebrity there on social media, and that’s great.”

Idaho (2-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) is idle this week, and plays host to Louisiana-Lafayette (1-3, 0-1) a week from Saturday for homecoming. The Vandals are in a four-way tie for first in the Sun Belt with Troy, Appalachian State and Louisiana-Monroe.

Lafayette is also idle this week.

“We’re going to practice hard this week. They’re a physical team,” Petrino said of Lafayette.
