Russum hit lifts Lakeland past Cd'A

RATHDRUM — Freshman Allison Russum singled to score Hannah Myers with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Lakeland Hawks past the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 8-7 in a nonleague game on Tuesday at Lakeland High.

It marked 4A Lakeland’s first win over 5A Coeur d’Alene since 2013.

Abbey Leon and Taylor Woolley also homered for Lakeland (2-8), which travels to Timberlake on Thursday.

“We played really solid defense and worked together as a team and came out on the right end of things,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said.

Natalie Sell and Hailey Lyons homered for Coeur d’Alene (0-6), which is scheduled to open 5A Inland Empire League play at Post Falls on Saturday.

POST FALLS — Amanda Rouse struck out 11 and pitched a two-hit shutout in the nightcap as the host Trojans swept the Bears in nonleague play.

Dinah Seymour allowed two hits in the opener for Post Falls (3-3), and went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the second game.

Kaycie Barber went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game for Post Falls. Kahlea Dumas was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs for the Trojans.

Ally Morris had a two-run double in a 12-run second inning, and Bailey Gleaves had a two-run single in the fourth.

Post Falls opens 5A Inland Empire League play Saturday, hosting Coeur d’Alene in a doubleheader.

RATHDRUM — Noah Mayfield had three hits and three RBIs and Levi Haen hit a two-run single as the Vikings scored eight runs in the first inning to power past the Hawks at Gorton Field.

“Everyone that stepped into the box had a good at-bat in the first inning,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “Justin (Bates) pitched a great game.”

Carter Friesz went 3 for 4 with four RBIs for Coeur d’Alene (5-3), which is scheduled to host East Valley on Thursday.

Lakeland (6-5) hosts Timberlake today at 3 p.m.

“Our pitchers struggled a bit with locating pitches, and Coeur d’Alene really made us pay for it,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said.

POST FALLS — Four Trojan pitchers combined on a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk in the nonleague win over the Knights.

Chase Cripps delivered a two-run double in the fifth inning for Post Falls (4-5).

“Our pitchers threw a lot of strikes,” Trojans coach Mick Zeller said. “Yesterday (Monday) was only our second day practicing on our field.”

Post Falls returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lakeland.

COEUR d’ALENE — Madi Whittemore, Gabby Kauer and Maggie Bloom swept in girls singles for the Vikings in a win over the Hawks at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We were missing a few players due to injury and illness, but had some of the younger kids like Maggie Bloom step up and play well,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said.

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to host Lewiston and Moscow on Saturday.
