ROYAL CITY — The Moses Lake Medical Team is hosting a Mexican Dinner and Auction fundraiser in Royal City Saturday, April 21 at Red Rock Elementary School, 230 Wildflower St. from 4-8 p.m. to raise funds for their upcoming mission to Nigeria April 26 through May 11.

During the event, attendees will be treated to authentic Mexican cuisine including enchiladas and carnitas. Both a silent auction and a live auction will also be held during the course of the evening.

“Every penny (from the fundraiser) will go towards supplies,” said team member Heather Verhey.

Entertainment will be provided by the dance group Ballet Sol y Luna.

The Moses Lake Medical Team, Verhey explained, is a charity organization that provides healthcare to impoverished communities and individuals worldwide. They are funded through private contributors and donations, and act as a conduit between those with health resources and those with health needs.

“Most of the people have never seen a doctor.”

Each year, team members volunteer to take vacation time from their jobs to travel around the world with the organization and help provide a wide variety of medical care from general check-ups to performing surgeries, Verhey said. They also take along all of their own equipment, supplies and medications.

Team members include doctors, nurses, lab techs and many others from Royal City, Moses Lake, Wenatchee and Shelton as well as Chile and Nigeria.

Tickets for the fundraising event are $30 and can be purchased from team members or from Southgate Pharmacy in Moses Lake. Donations may also be made at mlmtusa.org.
