Chiefs, Maidens tennis program stellar in first two matches

The Ronan tennis team showcased its ability to compete with Class A schools instantaneously with several outstanding performances against Stevi.

Chiefs’ tennis player Garrett Anderson defeated Stevi’s Jacop Carletto 6-0, 6-2 in his singles match and also teamed up with doubles partner Coleman Taylor. Anderson and Taylor swept Ben and Sam Hale 6-2 in both games to capture the match.

Vincente Ortega also defeated Miguel Gamero 6-0,6-1 in both games to capture the singles’ match.

The doubles tandem of Conner Cornwell and Sherman Violette also won their respective matches defeating John Rodriguez and Paul Rodriguez 6-2, 6-2.

The duo of Caden Bourdon and Joey Parnell were defeated by Austin Armijo and Sebestain Driver by a score of 1-6, 5-7.

Morgan Brooks and Maddy Sevier both fell in their first matches of the season. Brooks lost to Westman 1-6, 0-6 and Stevi’s Ashley Eyre 1-6, 3-6, defeated Sevier.

The doubles tandem of Brooks and Sevier were defeated by Jamyn Beller and Callie Cavill 4-6, 3-6.

Anderson continued to shine in their rain-shortened match against Darby. Anderson swept Waku Kamiya 6-1, 6-0 to capture the match.

Brooks lost her singles match with one of the games being called because of rain. Brooks fell to TeAnna Rause 4-6, 3-6 and Skyler Shima swept Kimber Sclapman 6-1, 6-0.

The Chiefs, Maidens next match will start at 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Valley Christian High School.
