An armed assailant is reported to have raped a female victim early Wednesday on N. 18th Street north of Sherman Avenue.

Police in Coeur d’Alene are investigating the incident reported to have occurred around 2:30 a.m.

She told investigators she had just returned home and was walking toward her house when she was approached by a male she did not know, who asked to speak with her.

“When he was close enough, he pushed her to the ground and threatened her with a knife. The male then sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the area,” said a news release.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall with an average build. He had short, dark-colored hair and a dark-colored goatee.

At the time of the incident, the male was wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.

“This is an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time,” said the news release.
