Little ones from around Thompson Falls braved the wet weather for the annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday at the elementary school.

Teachers Emmalie Gavlak and Amy Laws were excited to meet their prospective new students for next fall as they went through development sessions.

Each new student sat down with either of the kindergarten teachers and went through colors, shapes and questions for their pre-schooling assessment.

“We are so excited,” said Gavlak.

“It is always so much fun to meet them and see what kind of great personalities we will see in the classroom next year,” she added.

Malachi was one of the first soon-to-be students to arrive at the round-up. He sat down with Gavlak and went through the paces. He showed her how he could use scissors and draw all kinds of different shapes.

“I am excited to start school,” said Malachi.

He also went on to tell Gavlak how he really likes dinosaurs and how his mohawk looks like a stegosaurus.

When each prospective new student was done, there were given a little packet that had a book with some coloring pictures and basic developmental exercises to work on.

“This is a great day. We really look forward to it,” said Gavlak.

Next for the new kindergarten class will be their four-day kinder summer school in July.

“The kids get to understand what being in school will involve. They will also get to make some friends before school starts in the fall,” said Gavlak.

Thompson Falls Elementary look to gain anywhere between 26 and 30 new students for the 2018-19 class.
