Two people remain hospitalized, one in critical condition, after being involved in a two-vehicle collision that shut down Ramsey Road for two hours Sunday in Coeur d’Alene.
Casey Mitchell is in critical condition, and Annette Mitchell, 49, is in fair condition, according to Kootenai Health. David Delgado, 50, was treated and released.
Idaho State Police report the crash occurred when Annette Mitchell ran a red light while driving southbound on Ramsey Road around 8 p.m., striking a truck driven by Delgado of Coeur d’Alene.
Mitchell was transporting a passenger, Casey Mitchell, with a medical emergency, ISP said.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Ramsey and Golf Course Road.
The Mitchells were not wearing seat belts, but Delgado was. All three were taken to Kootenai Health to be treated.
Ben Carlstad of Coeur d’Alene said he was on his way home Sunday when he saw a fire truck headed northbound on Ramsey quickly turn around to head toward the scene.
Carlstad said, when he arrived several first responders were already present, including an EMT performing CPR on an unresponsive man.
He described the collision as severe and the scene as messy.
“The whole tire broke off the axle on the truck,” Carlstad said. “There was antifreeze everywhere. It was a pretty intense, gruesome scene.”
The crash shut down a section of Ramsey for two hours, according to ISP.
