Huskies Girls Tennis dominates Quincy on the court

Othello found little resistance from Quincy in CWAC tennis action Saturday as the Huskies shutout the Lady Jacks 5-0 at home.

Julissa Cantu struggled in the first set of her singles match with Alexis Mondragon, dropping it 6-3. But she bounced back big in the final two sets 6-3,6-1 to claim the victory.

Second singles Amayeli Diaz turned back Hannah Bensch. First doubles Macy Hampton and Daishawn Roylance dominated Brynn Niewwenhuis Hailey Mckee 6-2, 6-1. Second doubles Janiese Alvarez and Alyssa Freeman rolled past Dani Ronish and Daisy Ramirez 6-2, 6-3. Third doubles Jenny Walker and Janae Freeman beat Alanis Esparza and Vanessa Morga.

Othello moves to 2-1 in conference play with the win and 7-1 overall.

Boys

The boys team gave it they’re all, but fell short of a much-needed win in a 3-2 loss to Quincy. The Huskies took both singles matches, but dropped all three doubles match to fall to 1-2 in league play and 4-4 overall.

Kyler Villarreal defeated Efrem Rosenburg 6-6, (6-8), 6-1, 6-3. Second singles Abraham Alvarez blew past Izac Solano 6-0, 6-1 First doubles Levi Garza and Josh Valdez fell to Gates Peterson Randy Hodges 1-6, 3-6 Second doubles Danny Faustino and Erik Mendoza lost to Joahan Fregoso Noah Hoegar 0-6, 3-6 Third doubles

Sam Ronish and Taggart Hodges defeated Othello’s Saul Mensoza and Azeln Rivera 2-6, 3-6.

The Huskies were back in action Tuesday at Toppenish, but the results were not available at press time.

COWICHE — Freshmen Eliseo Romero recorded his second game winning goal in as many games and Royal held off Highland 1-0 in a State quarterfinal match on the Scotties home field Friday.
