The Huskies have hit a bump in the road as the regular season is nearing the end. Othello dropped a 6-2 nonleague game to Richland April 17, and was swept in doubleheader action at Ellensburg Saturday.

The game with Richland was played very well by both teams — there were a lot of great plays,” coach Rudy Ochoa said. “Ashley Garza did an outstanding job in center field, filling in that position for injured Rilee Heist, and four catches on the to keep the game close. We did leave 10 runners on base, but all in all we as a coaching staff feel the girls have improved greatly.”

Bulldogs 15, 10

Huskies 3, 0

ELLENSBURG — Things got out of hand early in the opener for the Huskies as the Bulldogs pushed 3 runs across the dish in the bottom of the first inning. Othello got within a run after posting 2 in the top of the third. But the wheels came off the bus in the home half of the frame when Eburg hung 10 runs on the board. The Bulldogs added 2 more in the fourth. Othello posted a run in the top of the fifth to round out the scoring for the game. The Huskies had seven hits in the ball game, but were handcuffed defensively with seven errors in the contest.

“Not a lot to say about the poor out…the only bright spot we had really was Malayah Sauceda hitting two homeruns,” Ochoa said. “Our hitting wasn’t that bad, but we had a lot of errors.”

Game 2

Ellensburg proved why it’s the team to beat after dominating the second game as well. Bulldog pitcher Carissa Burgess only allowed three hits and fanned 10 Huskies in the shortened game that was called by the 5 inning-10-run rule.

The dual losses drop Othello to 6-6 in the league standings. With just six games left in the regular season, the Huskies must now find a way to right the ship and secure the final playoff spot. First up is a twin bill with Prosser at home Saturday. Two wins against the Mustangs and a Wapato loss will nail it down for Othello.
