Bigfork fire levy ballots to be remailed

Around 3,500 ballots for the May 8 vote on a fire mill levy for the Bigfork service area will be reprinted and redistributed over the next few days following a misprint on the ballots sent out April 18.
According to Monica Eisenzimer, the election clerk, recorder and manager for the Flathead County, around 100 ballots had already been returned when the misprint was discovered.
The erroneous ballots left out the impact statement, which outlined the financial impact the levy would have on taxes for Bigfork-area residents should the vote pass.
Eisenzimer said the levy would cost taxpayers $20.25 on a $100,000 house or $40.50 on a $200,000.
Those who already cast their votes on the faulty ballots must revote on the new ballots in order to be counted.
Eisenzimer said the new ballots should arrive by Monday at the latest and in plenty of time for the May 8 deadline.
Voters can either mail in their ballots or turn them in to ballot boxes located at both the election office and at the Bigfork fire hall.
Anyone who does not receive their ballot by Wednesday, May 2 should go to the election office to fill one out.
