Langohr named assistant superintendent of Kalispell schools

Glacier High School Principal Callie Langohr has been named the next assistant superintendent of Kalispell Public Schools.

The unanimous decision was made at a Tuesday school board meeting.

She will replace current district Assistant Superintendent Andrea Johnson, who is retiring this year with plans to complete her doctorate.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to serving the staff and the community in this position,” Langohr said.

Langohr will assume her new responsibilities on July 1. Some of the duties of assistant superintendent include oversight of the K-12 curriculum, instruction and assessment; professional development and mentoring; middle and high school activities; annual budget audit; driver’s education; and summer school.

Until then, Langohr said she has reassured Glacier staff that she will finish the last two months out strong.

“We’re going to have a great graduation ceremony and we will be OK,” said Langohr, who has been at the helm since Glacier opened in 2007.

Prior to leading Glacier, Langohr was principal of Flathead High School — the school she graduated from in 1971 — for seven years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a physical science minor from Montana State University and a Master of Education in Career Guidance and Counseling from Montana State University Northern.

Langohr has outlined a few goals for when she steps into the role of assistant superintendent.

“One of my first priorities will be to establish relationships with staff ‘K’ through 12. It’s important to me to know what people are thinking, what type of support they need from me and what their priorities are. If I don’t know what they’re thinking then I’m in the dark on how to best support them,” Langohr said.

“The second priority will be to continue the work that was started with the budget — specifically (to) zero in on the curriculum budget,” she said. “As a team, we will design a budget that is a result of collaboration among the stakeholders, so that the teachers and administrators have input and feel it is a collaborative effort.”

Being accessible is also important to Langohr.

“The third priority relates a little to the first priority. It is to be visible and be responsive to the needs of staff and administrators. Along with that goes communication — make sure sound communications systems (are) in place so that staff and administrators feel they’re a part of the team and moving together as one.”
