Basin roundup: Warden baseball keeps playoff hopes alive with sweep of River View

KENNEWICK — Warden kept its district playoff hopes alive with a sweep of River View 4-3, 7-5.

The Cougars scored four in the first inning, but had to hold off a seventh-inning rally to win Game 1. Robert Arredondo struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings; Wade Visker collected the save.

Tommy Pruneda drove in two runs.

Warden scored five first-inning runs in the second game. Pruneda had two more RBI and Rodrigo Ozuna had two hits and one RBI.

Selah 5-4, Othello 2-1

SELAH — Othello lost a pair of tight games at Selah 5-2, 4-1.

Selah scored five unanswered runs in the opener to take control. Valente Garza drove in one run for the Huskies.

In Game 2, the Vikings scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead for good.

College Place 12-10, Royal 4-5

COLLEGE PLACE — Royal was swept by College Place 12-4, 10-5.

Game 1 starter Kevin Reyes lasted four innings and struck out two. Tyler Allred and JC Worsham drove in two runs apiece in the night cap.

Softball

Ellensburg 8-5, Ephrata 5-2

EPHRATA — Ephrata could not get over the hump against league-leading Ellensburg and was swept 8-5, 5-2.

Jocelyn Eisen homered in the opener and Kamryn Shannon tripled. Eisen added two more hits and tripled in the second game.

ROYAL CITY — Royal overcame the elements to beat Connell 1-0.

“Playing in a hurricane is not fun,” head coach Jens Jensen said. “Tonight was a hurricane.”

Daniel Bonilla scored the lone goal of the game in the 64th minute.
