WENATCHEE — Moses Lake wanted to send a message during its three-game set against Wenatchee.

Message received.

After a 12-2 win on Tuesday, Moses Lake firmly entrenched itself in first place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine by sweeping Wenatchee 14-0, 15-1 on the road.

The pair of wins kept the Chiefs (12-0, 13-1) unbeaten in league play with two series left against Eisenhower and Eastmont.

Savannah Ashley blanked the Panthers in Game 1. Ashley scattered four hits in five innings, striking out five.

The Chiefs scored one run each in the first two innings before exploding for nine in the third inning. Brooklyn Bailey smacked a three-run home run and Michelle Turner hit a two-run double to increase the lead in a hurry.

Brooke Richardson bookended the huge rally with an RBI on a fielder’s choice and, after Moses Lake had batted around its lineup, an RBI single.

Not content, Richardson homered to center field for two more RBI in the fifth inning. The reigning CBBN Player of the Year finished the opener 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI.

Game 2 was a pitcher’s duel.

Until it wasn’t.

Nursing a 2-1 lead, Moses Lake erupted for 13 runs in the sixth inning to ease any nerves in the dugout or stands.

Game 2 starter Gina Skinner allowed eight hits, but the Panthers could only take advantage for one run scored in the fifth inning. Skinner struck out seven batters in six innings.

Richardson and Laurissa Martinez homered in the fourth and fifth inning, respectively, before the game got out of hand.

Helping her own cause, Skinner began the 13-run inning with an RBI triple. Paige Valdez added an RBI single and, on her next time up, Skinner knocked a two-run single.

Richardson doubled in two more runs and Sydney Ries singled in Bailey to punctuate the rally.

Richardson added three hits, three runs and three RBI to her monster day.

Moses Lake begins its three-game series with Eisenhower in Yakima on Tuesday.
