Neva Marie Holcombe McMinimy Moore, 85
Neva Marie Holcombe McMinimy Moore (85) passed peacefully on Aug. 1, 2018, with family at her side at the Schneidmiller Hospice House after a short battle with cancer.
Neva was born on April 13, 1933, in Crescent City, Calif., to Donald Holcombe and Alta Sargent Holcombe. Neva joined older brother, Donald Holcombe. Later, Donald and Neva were adopted when Alta remarried Richard “Mick” McMinimy. They were joined by siblings, Richard and Patricia McMinimy.
Born during the Depression year, their family traveled the west following the crop harvests and any work Mick and Alta could find. They spent years in Electric City, Wash., where Mick worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. They discovered Spokane, Wash., and moved to the area when Mick became employed at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood. They moved to Post Falls, Idaho, in the 1940s, where Mick and Alta spent the remainder of their lives.
Neva graduated from Post Falls High School, Class of 1951, and soon met the love of her life- a young local soldier home on leave named Frederick James Moore. They married on June 2, 1951, at the Post Falls Presbyterian Church. They quickly started a family. Pamela Ann was born in 1952, James Richard in 1953 and later, Christopher in 1957.
Fred was employed at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood and Neva was a homemaker. In the 1960s, Fred and Neva opened the Speed Queen Laundromat, which operated for 25 years in the Farver’s Supermarket building. When the kids got older, Neva began her career as a bartender. She worked at the Falls Club and later the Lucky Shamrock, in Hauser Lake, Idaho.
Fred and Neva were very active in the community and made many friends. They were founding members of Calvary Lutheran Church, which Fred helped construct. They were on the Post Falls Float committee and won numerous awards for their beautiful floats entered into the Armed Forces and Lilac Parades in Spokane.
Fred and Neva purchased property on the Spokane River at Greensferry and began boating the river and Lake Coeur d’Alene. They joined the Coeur d’Alene Water Ski Club and Neva would be on top of a six-man pyramid, performing at Coeur d’Alene City Beach Fourth of July Celebrations.
Neva was active in many organizations: Post Falls Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Post 143, Post Falls Lions Club, Eagles Club, Post Falls Library and Lady Pool League.
After Fred retired, they travelled the U.S. extensively until Fred’s passing in 2003. Neva then began to travel the world with her niece, Debra McMinimy Nickerson and her brother, Richard and wife, Norma. She loved to travel and cruise, and even went zip-lining at age 82.
Neva is preceded in death by her parents, Richard “Mick” McMinimy and Alta McMinimy; her husband of 52 years, Frederick Moore and brothers, Donald and Richard McMinimy.
Neva is survived by her sister, Patricia Edwards of Plummer, Idaho; daughter, Pamela (Darrell) McCurdy of San Leon, Texas; sons, James (Judy) Moore of Garwood, Idaho and Christopher (Joanne) Moore of Post Falls; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and her first great-great-grandchild, Benjamin and many nieces and nephews.
Neva was the matriarch of the family and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at English Funeral Chapel 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations in Neva’s name may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83854.
