SANDPOINT — A gunman who shot and killed another man at a Sandpoint motel on Monday night remains on the loose.
The city expects to release additional information today about the shooting at the Meandering Moose Motel.
No new details were released on Tuesday, according to City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton.
The Kootenai Valley Times reported on its Facebook page that Sandpoint Police have contacted the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office because the suspected shooter may be in Bonners Ferry.
Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer, however, said on Tuesday there is no connection, only rumors.
“There’s nothing unique or directly related to the suspect being up here at this point,” Kramer said.
Kramer added that his deputies are part of a regional effort to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a darker-skinned male between the ages of 20-40. He stands 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a blue shirt and tan shorts.
Sandpoint Police have taken to Facebook to urge friends to share the suspect’s description.
“If you saw anything suspicious in that area or have any information that may assist us in this investigation please contact Bonner Dispatch Immediately at 208-265-5525,” the post reads.
The shooting at the motel at the corner of U.S. Highway 2 and Marion Avenue occurred at approximately 7 p.m.
The male victim, who remained unidentified on Tuesday, was taken to Bonner General Health with a gunshot wound to the chest. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, according to city officials.
The shooting put local residents on edge, according to posts to Facebook.
There are two confirmed open murder probes underway in Bonner County, both of which are being investigated by sheriff’s detectives.
