Marlys Ann Rice, 83
Marlys Ann Rice, 83, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (formerly of Silverton, Idaho), passed away Aug. 8, 2018, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House of Coeur d’Alene. She was born May 17, 1935, in Helena, Mont. Marlys was the daughter of Norman William and Sybil Zola (Hagen) Jackson.
Marlys moved to Coeur d’Alene from Helena in 1945. She attended and graduated from the Coeur d’Alene High School in 1953. Marlys attended the University of Idaho, receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. While attending the University she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
Marlys married Dr. Richard A. “Dick” Rice on Aug. 24, 1957, in Coeur d’Alene. Dr. Rice passed away on Dec. 6, 2003.
Marlys served as an elementary school teacher for a few years before becoming a full-time wife and mother.
Marlys was a member of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Coeur d’Alene, a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Wallace, a 50-year member of PEO, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi. In her earlier years Marlys served as a Camp Fire leader.
Marlys loved and enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling and ceramics.
Marlys is survived by two daughters, Leslie (Scot) Cummings of Kellogg, Idaho, Lesa Huff and her companion Richard “Rick” Bullock of Post Falls, Idaho; one sister, Carol Perron of Hood River, Ore.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Jerry Ramey of Payson, Ariz.; her niece, Jodie Ramey and nephews, Brad Perron and Todd Ramey. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Richard “Dick” Rice; one daughter, Brenda Rice Fuller and a brother-in-law, Duane Perron.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Interment will be held at the Forest Cemetery of Coeur d’Alene. A reception and luncheon will be held at the church following services.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814, to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
