SANDPOINT — Firefighters working the Alpine Fire north of town continued to strength fire lines on Saturday.
The Idaho Department of Lands said the 103-acre fire is entirely contained and crews are using a series of hoses to mop up and cool hot spots.
The fire, which is burning on industrial timberland in the Caribou Creek drainage, is exhibiting creeping and smoldering behavior within the fire’s perimeter, according to an update released by IDL on Saturday. The fire was also turned over to local public safety officials on Saturday.
Daytime temperature are predicted to be about 74 degrees, with southwest winds 13-18 mph and gusts of up to 26 mph.
“Forest conditions are still very dry. Use caution and adhere to all restrictions to help us protect our forests and keep the public and our firefighters safe,” IDL said in the update.
Current air quality in the area is rated as moderate. Updated air conditions can be viewed on the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s website (airquality.deq.idaho.gov).
Cooperating agencies include the Bonner Sheriff’s Office, Bonner County Office of Emergency Management, Idaho Office of Emergency Management, the U.S. Forest Service and the Northside Fire District.
The lightning-caused fire took hold on July 28 and has 32 personnel working the blaze.
No structures are being threatened by the fire.
