An Englishman ordered the soup du jour in a New York City restaurant.

When the waitress delivered the soup, the Englishman was a bit dismayed.

“Good heavens,” he said. “What is this?”

“Why, it’s bean soup,” said the waitress.

“I don’t care what it’s been,” he sputtered. “What is it now?”
