TO SELL OLD FARMIN SCHOOL

The old Farmin School in downtown Sandpoint received its death sentence from Bonner County school trustees, who approved the notice of discontinuance of the old Farmin and set the call for bids on sale of the property for Sept. 10.

The Farmin School was built in 1906-07 on property donated for school purposes by L.D. Farmin, the man who believed the future of Sandpoint lay on the west side of Sand creek. The entire block was set aside in the original town, bounded by Second, Third and Church and by Oak and Main. The $32,500 building, designed to be the finest in North Idaho, opened its doors on Sept. 9, 1907.

OFFICE READIED FOR NEW SURGEON

Dr. Theodore Alm, formerly of Bishop, Calif., will soon locate in the Masonic Temple building, which Dick’s Letter Shop formerly occupied.

Dr. Alm, surgeon, has moved here to open a practice once the office is ready. Alm has moved into the Thad Hunt residence at Lakeside.

Aug. 14, 1918 — CUT DOWN ON SUGAR

Hitherto Idaho housewives have been urged to can all the fruit they can as there was plenty of sugar, but the supply has decreased so rapidly, it is now necessary to restrict canners to 25 lbs.

12 MORE TO CAMP LEWIS

Twelve more Bonner county boys will go to Camp Lewis between July 26th and 31st, under orders received by the local draft boards. This exhausts the Class 1 men of this county, and takes six men from the 1918 register.

SOLDIERS NEED MORE BOOKS

The Sandpoint library has a request for more books for the men overseas. Novels and good western stories, new or old, are most needed. Zane Grey, Rex Beach, Jack London, Ralph Connor, Owen Wister and O. Henry are very popular. The library will forward all suitable books turned in and urges friends of the soldiers and sailors, many of whom have already given generously, to give more books. Over 600,000 books have already been sent overseas.

AROUND CITY AND COUNTY

It has been a long time since Sandpoint has seen as hard a rain as last weekend. There was 1.57 inches of precipitation Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. The rains up Sand creek washed so much sand into the city reservoir that the intake was choked up and the pressure reduced to a low point Tuesday. It took several hours to get things in shape again.
