OTHELLO — Quick acting Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies used Narcan, a nasal anti-opioid spray, to save the life of an overdose victim Tuesday evening.

About 8:15 p.m. Adams County deputies responded to the 2100 block of West Cunningham Road, east of Othello, after receiving a report of a male who had possibly overdosed on drugs. When deputies arrived the male was reportedly lying face down and was unconscious with no pulse.

Deputies administered Narcan, which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, to the male and “moments later a pulse was sustained,” according to the ACSO. A few moments later

deputies were not able to locate a pulse and a second dose of Narcan was administered, which resulted in deputies finding a pulse again.

Emergency services arrived moments later and the male regained consciousness. The male was transported to Othello Community Hospital for further treatment. Narcan is used to help revive victims of heroin, morphine, fentanyl, codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, meperidine and methadone overdoses.
