A 46-year-old North Carolina woman died in a wreck early Tuesday morning on a Forest Service road in Lincoln County, northeast of Yaak.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper James Handy, the woman was driving a 2018 Subara Impreza north on Vinal Lake Road, also known as Forest Service Road 746, when she failed to negotiate a moderate curve, drove off the road and hit several trees.

She was wearing her seat belt, but suffered fatal injuries.

Handy said the woman was driving faster than conditions allowed.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
