As a member of the public who was outraged at the gunning down of this woman, who was brought to the hospital for care and was then shot and killed with an AR-15, outside the emergency room, I am heartened to read that the city’s attempt to continue this miscarriage of justice, has been rejected by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The court found, what I’ve been saying all along, that the two officers’ claim that Jeanetta posed an immediate threat, was and is a violation of her constitutional rights. When one neighboring county sheriff’s investigation finds no fault with a shooting 45 miles away, you can bet it won’t be an objective overview. This ruling confirms it. They have cleared these cops of criminal charges, but the civil fines, that the city will eventually pay, could be in the millions.

I do think the fact that, in the four years since her killing, there has not been a repeat of anything like this, shows that the message has been sent out, that Sandpoint, as a community, will not stand for this type of behavior by our law enforcement. She did not die in vane. RIP. Jeanetta
