Music and food were enjoyed by about 150 people over the weekend at The Idle Spur in Dayton, supporting one local school district.

Approximately $1,500 was raised by dinner and donations to benefit Dayton Elementary School, Superintendent of Schools Carolyn Hall said Monday afternoon.

Offering entertainment was Bannack, a band in which Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney Wally Congdon plays bass.

The five-man string band, Congdon shared with the audience, is made up of a group of friends from Montana and Idaho.

When a bandmember hears of a cause in or around their hometown, they call up the rest of the band, who then play for food.

Congdon also donated beef served during the dinner buffet, Hall said.

Due to growing enrollment, additional teachers have been added to the staff this upcoming school year, as well as the school’s first principal, Darlene Hartman.

To help accomodate the “exploding” enrollment, Hall said that some of the improvements the school has seen is a modular classroom that sits to the west of the school building, an increased septic system and enhancements to the playground.
