Gerald A. Park, 81, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully Aug. 10, 2018, at home. Jerry was born on June 20, 1937, in Alhambra, Calif., to Wayne and Bessie Park. He moved with his family to West Covina, Calif., at the age of 16, where he met his future wife, Sharon. They were married Aug. 20, 1956, and have been happily together for over 61 years.
Jerry attended Covina High School, where he was captain of the conference-winning football team, and subsequently received a football scholarship to Cal State at Berkeley. Jerry, with Sharon’s help, graduated from Cal State, Los Angeles with a BS degree in Business Administration, followed by graduate school and teaching assistant assignments. Jerry was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity, and Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity.
Jerry worked for Kaiser Steel Corp. for 24 years until it shut down in 1983. He was Superintendent of Primary Steel and Structural rolling mills along with support masonry and maintenance departments. Jerry was a life member of the American Iron and Steel Engineers as well as the American Iron and Steel Institute. He then went on to work for General Dynamics in Pomona, Calif., as a Senior Engineer for 5 years, followed by 2 years in the fiber glass business.
In 1994, Jerry and his wife Sharon retired to Hayden Lake, Idaho, and they lived there until 2011, when they moved to Garden Plaza in Post Falls.
Jerry loved the many fishing and boating trips to Alaska as well as local lakes. He was an eager golfer, tennis player and mid length runner. He was a long-term member with a group of friends in a poker group. He cherished their friendship. They will without a doubt miss his monthly contribution! He also was a great football and baseball fan and loved the Seahawks and Mariners.
Jerry was a long term member of Lake City Community Church and served as a volunteer usher. He enjoyed the camaraderie and support of the team members and felt a very close relationship to the Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bessie Park, his sister, Barbara Meyer, and his son, Roger Park.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Park (Post Falls, Idaho) his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Lisa Park, grandsons, Tyler A. Park and Brendan C. Park (Murrieta, Calif.) his son David and son-in-law Michael Arnold (Cathedral City, Calif.) his daughter-in-law Darcie Park and granddaughter Rachel M Park (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) and his sister Sylvia Osborn (LaVerne, Calif.) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was loved by so many and will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family as well as his church family.
Jerry’s Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at Lake City Community Church with a luncheon reception following.
