Darrell Lloyd Elvester, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with full military honors. Potluck reception to follow at Gary and Jan’s at 1016 Hickory in Sandpoint.

Darrell was born on Dec. 4, 1947, in Brainerd, Minne-sota, to Nels and Florence Elvester. His family lived there until 1959 then moved to Spokane, Washington. He attended local schools there until 1967 when he signed up with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served one term in Vietnam and received a purple heart on tour. He returned home in 1970 and then moved to Sandpoint, where he lived the duration of his life.

Darrell’s interests and hobbies included drag races, hydroplane races, NHRA races, boating, fishing, WWE, hot rod cars, western novels and many other outdoor activities.

He is survived by two brothers, Gary (Jan) Elvester, and Jess (Teri) Elvester; and a niece, Danielle (Bo) Boyd. Special people in his life include Fred Fuller and Carrie Ridgwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
