Trail signs installed - thanks to local Eagle Scout Mondava

Lolo National Forest trails received some additional signage — thanks to help from a local Boy Scout Neil Mondava, 17.
He needed to complete a Leadership Project on his road to coming an Eagle Scout. An Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting, and must be completed by the age of 18.
Mondava lives in Missoula and worked with the Superior Forest Service District in July to install signs along the Thompson Peak Lookout Trail and the Tarkio loop. Five signs were installed at key junctions along the trails and a few old signs were removed. Members of his troop, along with members from a local church group, helped as well.
MONDAVA HAS has been with the scouts for 12 years and said becoming an Eagle Scout will look good on his job resume, and will allow him to continue in scouting with the National Eagle Scout Association. From 1912 to 2013, 2.3 million Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank, or about 7 percent of the total membership. Becoming an Eagle Scout is no small task, and members progress through several ranks and earn dozens of merit badges in order to qualify.
Boy Scout packs in Mineral County include St. Regis Pack 4953, Alberton Pack 4954, and Superior Pack 4955, and they are part of the Mullan Trail Boy Scouts.

Mineral County sends tax bill to Forest Service
The Forest Service will be receiving a property tax bill from Mineral County this year. County Commissioners Laurie Johnston, Roman Zylawy and Duane Simons signed the letter March 9 requesting property tax revenue for 2017. The “historic letter” as defined by Rep. Denley Loge, describes the plight Mineral County is facing as options to fund the county have dried up.
Colorado woman dies after vehicle gets stuck
An early evening call received by Mineral County dispatch on Friday, March 17, ended in tragedy. The body of Colorado resident Debra Ann Koziel was found in the Fish Creek area by a search team the following Tuesday afternoon. Her death was determined to be the result of exposure to weather.
No major flooding as snow thaws
“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
