Chamber music concert at library
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 6 years, 5 months AGO
The Libraries Rock Concert Series will present an evening of chamber music by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber Music Society on Aug. 27 at 5 p.m.
The concert will open with a brass quintet, CdABrassX5. The quintet’s program will include Rossini’s “The William Tell Overture,” followed by a rendition of the old spiritual “Down by the Riverside.” Next, the quintet will slow things down with an arrangement of Celine Dion’s “The Prayer.” The quintet’s portion of the concert will conclude with two classical themes: “Ode To Joy” from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and “Simple Gifts” from Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.”
The Flutonics (a flute ensemble) return with a “Gaelic Offering” by Catherine McMichael. They will be followed by Dynamic Duetto (flute and oboe duet) playing “Duo for Flute and Oboe” by Alberto Ginestera.
Joining the Society for this concert are two new groups. The Society welcomes members from the Spokane Horn Club performing works by W.A. Mozart and Lowell Shaw. Also joining for this concert is the 4 Saxman. They will be performing a variety of works including M. Boucard’s “Quartett-Sinfonia”.
N.I.T.E. (North Idaho Trumpet Ensemble) will close the concert.
The Chamber Music Society likes to pay tribute to a local charity on each concert. They will open with Walter Piston’s fanfare “Salute.” Two members of the ensemble, Jim Phillips and Phil Aarhus, will perform a traditional piece “Danny Boy” on piccolo trumpets, followed by a suite of four Brazilian folk songs, “Fantasia Brasileira.”
For this concert N.I.T.E. will play two early music pieces. “Kyrie” from Mass SV190 by Claudio Monteverdi and Giovanni Gabrieli’s “Canzona Segunda.” The concert will end with Percy Grainger’s arrangement of the folk song “There Was A Pig Went Out to Dig.”
The Coeur d’Alene Chamber Music Society was created to give local musicians a chance to perform chamber music. The hope is that these concerts will be the beginning of a series of opportunities for musician to put together small ensemble and have a place to perform.
