COEUR d’ALENE —The city by the lake will soon experience Broadway’s favorite “singular sensation.”
Lake City Playhouse’s production of “A Chorus Line” opens Sept. 7 and runs through Sept. 23 with performances Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning show opened on Broadway in New York City in 1975 to critical acclaim and became one of the longest running shows in Broadway history.
A celebration of chorus dancers, the unsung heroes of musical theater, the show is centered on 17 Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line.
“When I was in high school, I remember watching the film of this musical and thinking to myself, ‘I’m going to perform in that show someday,’” said Tre Keough, who plays Bobby, one of the male auditionists. “Here I am almost 10 years later, getting to perform this wonderful piece of work on the Lake City Playhouse stage.”
“A Chorus Line” explores the inner lives and ambitions of Broadway gypsies, the chorus singers and dancers who travel from show to show.
“The entire cast had some unique or traumatic experience or experiences as a kid that shaped them into who we see in the show, while the worst of Mike’s childhood woes were nicknames that he didn’t like,” said David Eldridge, who plays Mike Costa, another one of the male auditioners.
