COEUR d’ALENE — Greyden Lee scored twice in the first four minutes and finished with a hat trick as the Lake City Timberwolves opened their season by blanking the visiting Lakeland Hawks 8-0 on Saturday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Jacob Janzen added a goal and three assists for Lake City, and Ashton Elwin had two goals and an assist.

“For the majority of the game, we played good quality team soccer, were sound defensively, produced several sustained periods of offensive pressure and kept a clean sheet,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We came out strong and distributed the ball well. We have a few aspects of the game that we need to tighten up but overall I’m pleased with the performance and the work effort of this year’s team.”

Lake City travels to Moscow on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Cameron Dance’s goal in the 77th minute broke a 1-all tie and lifted the host Vikings past the Bears in nonleague play.

Docker Bond sent a one-touch pass between his legs to Dance, who fired a left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the net.

“Things started off a little sloppy, but by the end of the second half things finally started to click, and we were playing the kind of soccer that we knew we could,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said.

The Vikings were missing four starters due to SATs, opening some playing time for some of the younger players, including freshman Alex Reyes.

“We put him up top and he was creating opportunities, beating players one on one, really making things happen up top,” Ridgewell said.

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to host Lakeland on Tuesday.

First half — none. Second half — 1, Mos, name unavailable, 55:00. 2, Cd’A, Chris Swider (penalty kick), 70:00. 3, Cd’A, Cameron Dance (Docker Bond), 77:00.

Coeur d’Alene (2-1) plays host to Mead on Friday.

First half — 1, SM, Bethan Suchowski (Cassidy Ross), 25:00. 2, Grange, name unavailable, 35:00. Second half — 3, SM, Alena Davenport (unassisted), 64:00. 4, SM, Suchowski (unassisted), 69:00.

Lake City at Lakeland girls soccer was rescheduled for Monday at 4 p.m.

Weisz, Brass lead Bulldogs past

Tigers in dual

SPIRIT LAKE — Sandpoint senior Ephriam Weisz edged Timberlake junior Logan Hunt by four seconds to win the boys race, and Sandpoint senior Niah Brass finished seven seconds ahead of Tiger sophomore Megan Hatrock in the girls race, part of a rare dual meet at Timberlake High.

The race was supposed to be held at the University of Idaho extension property in Sandpoint, but when Bulldog coaches Matt and Angie Brass were setting up the course at 6:20 a.m. the AQI smoke rating was at 157, just above the 150 cutoff to compete. The air in Spirit Lake was at 77 so the race was moved on the fly.

The 2.06 mile flat track provided a shorter race that the usual 5K high school cross country course, which the kids seemed to like.

“It’s kind of fun for them, they get out and just race, not worried about the time since there’s no reference. The Timberlake guy (Hunt) had a four-second lead and Ephriam reeled him in and passed him on the backstretch of the track,” described Matt Brass of the race, noting Niah enjoyed the opportunity to race against the boys. “She liked having all one race, we ran the girls and the guys together. She liked having competition all around, and ran a smart, controlled race.”

Both teams are at the Farragut Invitational on Sept. 8.
