SANDPOINT — A preliminary hearing is pending for a Kootenai man accused of trying to sell his former employer’s property on the internet.

Casey Everett Clayburn is charged with burglary and grand theft. The hearing to determine if there’s enough evidence to justify trying Clayburn in 1st District Court is set for Sept. 5.

Clayburn, 34, is free on his own his own recognizance while the case is pending, court records show.

A criminal complaint alleges Clayburn stole Northern States Pest Control’s property between May and April. A Sandpoint Police investigator discovered two stolen laser levels for sale on Facebook and on craigslist.com in May, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police confronted Clayburn whether he possessed his former employer’s property, which Clayburn denied, the affidavit said. Clayburn allegedly confessed after he was advised of the posts to social media and the web.

Clayburn confessed to selling a generator for $850 and possessing the laser levels, court records indicate.
