BCGA announces fall's Home Horticulture Series

After a wild and seemingly very short summer, September’s at hand and the Bonner County Gardeners Association is ready with the annual Fall Home Horticulture Workshop Series.
Other than the opening field trip, classes will be held Wed. evenings at the Ponderay Events Center, 401 Bonner Mall Way, Ste. F, Ponderay. Dates and topics are as follows:
- Sept. 15: Saturday Field Trip from 3-5 p.m. – Home Composting with Ann Warwick and Janae Dale. Class will be held at 768 Samuels Rd and will feature on-site tips from Ann on how to have a successful composting experience. Janae will show you how to create and maintain a worm compost bin. Signs will be posted at Samuels Road.
- Sept. 19: Soil Preparation and Testing by Gray Henderson – Gray will teach you what you can do in the fall to insure that your soil is in optimal condition for next spring’s planting.
- Sept. 26: Asexual Plant Propagation by Manuela Eiring of Florascape Nursery – Learn methods of propagating plants without using seeds; discover which plants are best suited to various methods and when to use these techniques.
- Oct. 3: Hardy Grapes-Vines, Wines & Designs by Nancy Hastings or All Seasons Garden & Floral – Nancy will discuss which grape varieties for fresh eating, wine making and juicing will flourish here and how to integrate them into a beautiful landscape.
- Oct. 10: Orchard Fruits by Kyle Nagy from Sandpoint Orchard – The Sandpoint Orchard grows many varieties of apples, pears and stone fruits. Kyle will provide information on every step of orchard maintenance from planting to harvesting, pest control, pruning, when to perform these tasks and recommended varieties for this area.
Classes are $10 each per person and begin promptly at 6 p.m.; check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. Please, no children under 12. Register now, noting which classes you wish to attend and send with a check to the Bonner County Gardeners Assn, at the address listed above.
