Sandpoint’s community radio, 88.5 KRFY is adding a new weekly afternoon show – and it’s one tailored just for the young people of our area.

Ryan Baumgartner, a senior at Sandpoint High School and newly certified broadcaster at KRFY, will launch his new show, 3 O’Clock Rush, on Thursday, Sept. 6. It will air at 3 p.m. each Thursday on 88.5 KRFY.

The 3 O’Clock Rush is the first KRFY program designed and produced by and for high school students. It will feature music choices by Baumgartner plus relevant news and information about clubs, sports and upcoming events at the high school.

Station Manager Suzy Prez credits the new show to Baumgartner’s enterprise.

“Ryan came to the station and asked to be trained because he wanted to create a show geared specifically for his age group,” said Prez. It was an easy “yes,” she said, because KRFY had already made it a goal to develop more local programming for young people of the area.

The 3 O’Clock Rush will air at the advertised hour to be live just when students are getting out of school and are in their cars or – if the drivers will tune to 88.5, as Baumgartner will be asking – on the bus.

“I am very excited to be able to bring something entertaining, with great music, that is also informative to my friends and fellow students each week,” said Baumgartner.

For those who can’t catch the show on Thursday afternoons, there will be a second airing each Friday at 10 p.m., dubbed the 3 O’Clock Rush Reboot. And for any who aren’t in the broadcast range, all programs on KRFY can be heard live streaming from its website at www.KRFY.org.

The new program joins a host of other local programming provided by KRFY, thanks to a cadre of volunteer broadcasters who provide local music, talk and interview programs. Check the comphensive program schedule to see airtimes, by clicking the “Schedule” button on the station website at www.KRFY.org.

KRFY also has an active Facebook page, and always likes to hear from listeners by phone at 208-265-2992.
