Might be time to decrease - or increase - the dosage

So this past week, we’ve learned that certain meds can affect your memory, cause you to not remember certain things.
If that’s the case, that’s my excuse for my 5-2 effort in picking local high school games last week — which isn’t bad on paper, but the two misses (Post Falls and Kootenai) were WAY off.
Jason’s meds must have had a different effect on him, as he went 6-1, picking Post Falls and Kootenai to win.
(Of course, he also picked Timberlake to win last week).
Another week like the last one, and it might be time for a checkup for me.
HIGH SCHOOL
Friday’s Games
All 7 p.m.
Gonzaga Prep (0-0) at Coeur d’Alene (1-0)
NELKE: This is the rematch some have been waiting more than three decades for — never mind that none of the players were around then, obviously, though perhaps their parents and/or grandparents had a taste of the rivalry back in the early 1980s. Even though the Vikings are young, we’ll give them a slight edge over the vaunted Bullpup program, mostly because Coeur d’Alene has a game under its belt, and is playing at home.
Coeur d’Alene, 28-24
ELLIOTT: This has all the makings for the game of the year for the Vikings, that is until the next game of the year on Sept. 21 against Highland High of Pocatello. Until then ...
Coeur d’Alene, 29-26
Lewis and Clark (0-0) at Lake City (0-1)
NELKE: Lewis and Clark went 4-5 last year, one of those wins a 28-3 victory over Lake City in the season opener. The learning continues for the Timberwolves.
Lewis and Clark 28, Lake City 14
ELLIOTT: Lake City gets a little better this week.
Lewis and Clark 28, Lake City 17
Mead (0-0) at Post Falls (1-0)
NELKE: Mead is coming off a 4-5 season, but the Panthers could put up the points — 40 vs. Post Falls in the opener, 43 the next week at Coeur d’Alene. Post Falls hung 54 on Mead last year. Despite loads of new faces, the Trojans showed they could move the ball and put up a few points in a 34-7 win over Sandpoint last week. See above — because Post Falls is playing at home, and has a game under its belt …
Post Falls, 28-21
ELLIOTT: Post Falls should have the advantage with playing its first game last Saturday, a road game that ended up being played at home due to the smoke.
Post Falls, 24-23
Freeman (0-0) at Timberlake (0-1)
NELKE: Coming off a 53-0 loss at Frenchtown (Mont.), the Tigers gain some more experience playing their usual tough non league schedule.
Freeman, 35-14
ELLIOTT: Timberlake finds a way to keep it close, but Freeman finds a way to win its opener.
Freeman, 28-20
St. Maries (1-0) at Medical Lake (0-0)
NELKE: The teams last met three seasons ago in Medical Lake, with St. Maries winning 42-12.
St. Maries, 42-12
ELLIOTT: St. Maries improves to 2-0 this season.
St. Maries, 34-14
Clark Fork (0-1) at Kootenai (1-0)
NELKE: It’s the first true North Star League football game since 2013. The last four seasons, North Star and Whitepine Leagues teamed up to form the White Star League. Kootenai is coming off a 44-14 romp at Troy, while Clark Fork fell 52-14 to Lewis County.
Kootenai, 38-28
ELLIOTT: Clark Fork coach Brian Arthun and Kootenai coach Doug Napierala know how important this game is to where they want to be later in the season.
Kootenai, 44-32
Lakeside (0-1) at Kendrick (1-0)
NELKE: Lakeside still hopes to give Kootenai a run for the North Star title — the Knights just have to survive some tough nonleague games. Lakeside, a 1A Division II team, lost 62-24 to 1A Division I Wallace last week. Kendrick, which beat Genesee 72-50 last week, is a perennial playoff contender in the White Star/Whitepine league.
Kendrick, 62-48
ELLIOTT: Lakeside went deep into its depth chart last Friday, pulling up Lazarius Iron Cloud to play quarterback — and quite well — against Wallace last week. Should he get the chance again, it might be close.
Kendrick, 48-34
Saturday’s Game
Lakeland (0-0) vs. Rogers (0-0)
1 p.m. at Joe Albi Stadium, Spokane
NELKE: Lakeland has never lost at Albi Stadium. Of course, the Hawks have only played their once, beating Rogers 28-0 two years ago. The Pirates returned the favor last year with a 20-18 win at Rathdrum.
Lakeland, 24-20
ELLIOTT: If the Hawks can fly on the artificial turf, then they win the opener.
Lakeland, 20-18
COLLEGE
Saturday’s Games
All season openers
Washington State at Wyoming, 12:30 p.m.
NELKE: Yes, the elevation of Laramie, Wyo., is 7,165 feet, which is a factor. So is the fact Wyoming is a good, but not great, Mountain West Conference team, and WSU is one of the better teams in the Pac-12. As long as the Cougs remember that …
WSU, 33-19
ELLIOTT: Washington State should win this game.
WSU, 42-28
Idaho at Fresno State
7 p.m.
NELKE: Fresno State beat Boise State last year. Idaho hopes to make some noise in the Big Sky Conference, but Fresno is obviously a step above the Big Sky.
Fresno State, 42-21
ELLIOTT: Idaho might be able to keep this one interesting, right?
Fresno State, 38-17
Boise State at Troy
3 p.m.
NELKE: If the Broncos are as good as their supporters say they are, they should be able to handle the Trojans, who, as Idaho fans remember, are one of the better Sun Belt Conference teams.
Boise State, 42-14
ELLIOTT: Boise State is capable of having a great season. Great teams don’t lose games on the road to start the season.
Boise State, 35-17
Central Washington at Eastern Washington
1 p.m.
NELKE: Against the Division II Wildcats, the Eagles start dishing out some punishment following last year’s solid, but non-playoff, season.
EWU, 56-14
ELLIOTT: Eastern rolls in the opener.
EWU, 56-10
