With the change of seasons ready to come about, animals are still on the one during dusk and dawn hours and drivers should be vigil.

ON Aug. 20 around 8am a Toyota sedan collided with a deer on Montana 28 nat mile marker 16.4.

Although there were no injuries, Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Zach Rehbein said that animals are most active during the early and late hours of the day and its easy to not see them if you’re not scanning the sides of the road.

The driver of the sedan said he was coming down from Bigfork to visit with customers in Sanders County and said it was bad timing that the doe had run up out of a ditch at full speed when he hit her.

“A couple of guys from the DOT came out to see if I was OK, and said that this doe had been running across this corner a lot lately. It really was just bad timing and I always watch for them but today was just unlucky I hit one,” said the driver.

Trooper Rehbein said that speed wasn’t a factor, nor would the driver be cited for the accident.

”You can’t predict what an animal will do which is why you should stay alert when you are driving and always be watching incase they may jump out,” said Rehbein.
