SANDPOINT — Kimberly Stoddard has always loved sewing.
Then, about 10 years ago she made a handbag for a friend from an old leather jacket and fell in love with working with leather. Since then, Stoddard acquired more tools and started an Etsy site, 14xbags, and opened her leather studio, 14x Bags, about three years ago in downtown Sandpoint on N. Second Avenue.
In addition to her own work, Stoddardsells heirloom quality clothing and accessories brought to customers from independent designers and local artists. She prides herself on quality workmanship using time tested materials to bring customers the most unique pieces they won’t find anywhere else.
Her new location, called “Campfire Couture”, at 319 First Ave. — in the former Scandinavian Affär location — opened Friday, Dec. 7.
Campfire Couture features a wide variety of leather handbags and accessories, local artists’ jewelry, shaving razors and grooming products for men, Pendleton wool jackets, one-of-a-kind items made from vintage textiles and materials and women’s and men’s apparel.
In addition, Campfire Couture has a cozy, casual atmosphere with the leather studio in the back of the shop so visitors can see how these fabulous pieces are created.
Stoddard and her husband, Howard, are passionate about giving back and have donated pieces to Community Cancer Services’ A Night to Remember, Underground Kindness and more non-profits in the community.
