Dec. 9, 1968 — HICKEY/HOLT WEDDING

Baskets of lavender and white mums decorated the Sandpoint First Presbyterian Church for the Nov. 30 wedding of Jacqueline Joy Hickey and James Dean Holt. Rev. Clarence E. Twigg performed the double-ring ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard R. Hickey of Route 1, Sandpoint, are parents of the bride, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Holt, Sandpoint.

Mrs. Holt attended the University of Idaho and Links’ School of business in Boise. The groom is serving with the U.S. Navy and is now stationed at Pearl Harbor after two missions to Vietnam aboard the USS Long Beach.

For her wedding trip to the Coast, the new Mrs. Holt wore a dark grey knit suit with oyster white and grey accessories. The couple will be at home in Hawaii after Dec. 20.

FOOTBALL ATHLETES HONORED

Ralph Sletager and Bob Moore, honorary team captains on coach Ken Beaudoin’s SHS football team, also received trophies at last Tuesday’s annual Bulldog Bench banquet.

Sletager received the Jerry Kramer Award as the outstanding lineman. Moore was chosen by his teammates to receive the Hunt Trophy, for being most valuable, all-around player. A trophy for the senior with the highest scholastic average went to Gary Bates.

Pend d’Oreille Review

Dec. 9, 1918 — FLU FATAL AT CABINET

Joseph Shields, 38, prominent rancher of Cabinet succumbed to pneumonia Saturday. He was taken with influenza the Sunday previous. His wife and two children are also victims of the disease, and Mrs. Shields was not able to attend her husband’s funeral at Clarksfork Tuesday.

Besides his wife and children, the deceased leaves one brother at Cabinet, Thomas Shields, and brothers and sisters in Canada. He had been a resident of the Clarksfork country for 14 years and was a highly respected citizen.

MISTAKE IN NAME OF SOLDIER

It transpires that an error was made last week when we announced that Oscar Halderson was killed in battle. The young man killed was Oscar Halverson of Pend Oreille county, and the name similarity led to the mistake. A letter from Oscar Halderson states he was aboard ship bound for France when news came of the armistice and the ship turned and brought the soldiers back.

CITY BREVITIES

By the removal of Dr. Stauffer to Rose Lake where he accepts a contract with a lumber company, Sandpoint’s number of doctors is now reduced to two, Dr. Patterson and Dr. Wendle. Both are being “driven to death” with their regular practice and the flu patients.
