Unidentified person dies in Hungry Horse area vehicle fire

An unidentified person died late Saturday afternoon in a vehicle fire near Lion Lake in the Hungry Horse area, according to a Flathead County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The 911 dispatch center received a report at 5:20 p.m. of a vehicle fully engulfed in the woods near the lake. When the vehicle was extinguished it had extensive fire damage. The remains of one individual were found in the car, the Sheriff’s Office said. The victim’s body was recovered and will be sent to the Montana State Crime laboratory for autopsy. The person has not yet been positively identified. The Flathead County Fire Investigation Team responded to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The case remains under investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information to contact Crimestoppers at 406-752-8477, or the Detective Division at 406-758-5600.
